Zoals onze vrienden het al wel weten, deed Hoofdabt Kosho Ohtani twee jaar geleden afstand van de leiding van de Jodō-Shinshū Nishi-Hongwanji-ha. Meer dan 50 jaar had hij de zware functie bekleed één der aanzienlijkste Boeddhistische scholen van Japan door die moeilijke jaren te voeren.
Zoals de traditie het wil, onafgebroken sedert de dood van de Stichter Shinran Shōnin in 1262, wordt hij opgevolgd door zijn zoon, de nu Hoofdabt Koshin Ohtani, Monshu.
Hoewel de effectieve overdracht reeds twee jaar geleden plaats greep, is het slechts dit jaar dat de ambtsaanvaarding plechtig gevierd wordt, en wel gedurende 62 dagen, te beginnen op 1 april 1980, gespreid over een zestal maanden, om met een hoogtepunt te besluiten op 6 oktober 1980.

to the Most Reverend Lord-Abbot Koshin Ohtani
At the occasion of Your Ceremonial Accession to the highest dignity of the Jōdo-Shinshū Hongwanji-ha, it is with a sincere and faithful heart that we express our congratulations to Your Eminence.
The Antwerp Shin-Temple Jikō-ji and the Centrum voor Shin Boeddhisme are participating from afar to this joyful expression of reverence and filial affection.
We renew in Your hands our resolution to spread, for the welfare of all beings, the Teaching of Faith expressed in the Triple Sutra, by the Patriarchs and by our Founder Shinran Shōnin.
In this mind of fidelity to what we believe to be the highest and most profound form of religious life, we wish for You the fruitful and serene fulfilment of Your high function.
