Today I will board the ship
Of the Universal Vow.
Today and just for today
I’ll put my past behind me
And trust in the Exalted One.
I am greatly blessed, with friends
Who honour and respect me.
My work gives satisfaction.
Is this important when compared
With the great tasks awaiting me?
- To master the disease of life,
Bringing happiness to others
By good example, and to die
With the nembutsu on my lips.
I wish I could be more humble
For all the Buddha’s are laughing!
