Rev. Prof. Shōken Yamasaki, President of IABC
Address at the
Consecration Ceremony for the Amida Buddha Statue
Today the reconstruction of Jikōji, the first Shinshū
temple in Europe, has been successfully completed. It is a great pleasure and
honor for me to come from Japan accompanying the Image of Amida Buddha and to
share the deep joy with all of you. This temple, Jikōji, was founded by
those who seek the wisdom and compassion of Amida Buddha, especially by
Reverend Shitoku Peel.
Nembutsu friends in Japan, upon having heard the news
of the rebuilding of Jikōji, got together to assist with this project. The
Image of Amida was made with his utmost dedication by Mr. Eri, a renowned
sculptor of Buddhist images. The image and other altar fittings were donated by
Mr. Yehan Numata of the Buddhist Promoting Foundation in Japan.
I believe that this temple, Jikōji, will be a
center for studying the teaching of Amida Buddha in Europe. And I sincerely
hope that the teaching will ease the confrontations and fightings between
nations and peoples, and that Europe and the world will be at peace.
